Found this set at the great Manhattan Vintage Show in Austin from a local dealer. As a Vollbracht collector I was just floored at this rare piece. I have never seen this image or style before. After some digging I did find this particular scene, it is a wedding in a hot air balloon! He had designed it for his muse Carmen Dell'Orefice, since she loved hot air balloons. She also walked the runway wearing one of these pieces. Cotton weave is very lightweight and semi sheer. The skirt has black pipping at the waist which I love because it adds even more whimsy. It closes with a hook at the side of the waistband. The top is a pull over style, the bodice is a quilted panel with the images that have been applied. The quilted panel looks like a cropped vest layered over a tunic but it is all one piece. It closes at the front with hidden snaps, and a black ribbon neck tie. Dramatic puffy sleeves with the black balloon image on its side. This set is in excellent vintage condition, a couple of faint spots which are in the photos. These items would look great as separates too.
